Ski touring weekend at the Jamtalhütte

With state-certified ski guide

Dates on request

The Silvretta is a mountain range that straddles the border between Austria and Switzerland. It is known for its impressive peaks and glaciers and is a popular destination for ski tourers.

We choose a slightly different approach to the Silvretta and start on the Swiss side in Scuol in the canton of Graubünden, not far from the Tyrolean border. There, we first use the ski area to gain altitude. We then continue our ascent on less frequented routes and discover interesting ascents and exciting descents. Our accommodation is the Jamtal hutwhich is already back on Austrian soil.

Our base: The Jamtalhütte

The Jamtal hut is located in Tyrol, near Galtür. It is located in the Jamtal valley, a side valley of the Paznaun valley, at an altitude of 2,165 metres. The Alpine Club hut is a comfortable base for mountain tours and ski tours in the Silvretta group.

On smugglers' trails into the Jamtal valley

Ski tour in the area of the Jamtal hut and return to Scuol

Once again we look for a tour destination in the area of the Jamtalhütte. The seemingly endless descent then takes us back to Graubünden, from where we reach our starting point in Scuol after a short train/postbus journey.

End of the tour in Scuol & farewell.

The ski touring weekend at the Jamtalhütte is for Ski tourers with solid experience in ski touring. You do not need to have any high altitude touring/glacier experience.

You can ski parallel and solidly in changing snow types and have a decent ascent technique. Pointed turns should not be a problem. You can manage ascents of up to 1,000 metres in altitude and 6 hours a day (with breaks).

Please note that we are travelling in glaciated terrain at over 3,000 metres. You should therefore definitely go on a few preparation tours during the winter. You should also be free from vertigo.
